Right Respecting Schools

Rights Respecting School Award.

This award uses the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) as a guide to education children about the global rights of the child.  Currently we have the silver award and are working towards the gold this year.

These Awards recognises a school’s achievement in putting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child into practice within the school and beyond, for more information please see UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools.

The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child has 54 articles that cover all aspects of a child’s life and set out the rights that all children everywhere are entitled to.  These include:

  • the right to be heard and listened to (Article 12)
  • the right to freedom of expression (Article 13)
  • the right to education (Article 28)
  • that education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full (Article 29)
  • the right to use my own language, culture and religion (article 30)
  • the right to relax and play (Article 31)

We have been visiting some of these articles of the convention in assemblies this year and also in lessons.
