Admissions
Enrolment Procedure
Nursery
Parents are invited to register their child for Nursery and School as early as possible after their child is born. Even if you think that you may not require a Nursery place, it is better to put your child's name down and decline a place rather than put your name down late and not receive an allocation. Nursery places are not based on catchment and you may apply to any school nursery you wish. You will need to complete a standard registration of interest form which can be downloaded from the Government website.
Registering and applying for a school nursery place
Reception
You must register for a reception place at your catchment school by 1 November of the year before your child is due to start school.
Registration of interest in a Reception place
If you have registered interest in a place with St Martin's School and we are your catchment school, you will be sent an application form in November of the year before your child is due to start school.
Return your application form to St Martin's School. The School collates and forwards your details to the Department for Children, Young People, Education and Skills who allocate all school places. Place allocation is not done by the school. You'll receive an offer of a school place by the end of January if you have been allocated a place at St Martin's.
Parents may request up to 3 schools in order of preference. If a school is oversubscribed, priority will be given, in the following order, to children who:
- have a special educational need and must access a specific school / are looked after
- have brothers or sisters in the school (Reception to Year 5)
- are living in the primary school catchment area
- are living in the secondary school catchment area
- have brothers or sisters in the school - Year 6
- have other requests supported by a good educational reason
If you are not happy with your school allocation, you may appeal the decision by following the Government appeals process.
Transferring Schools
If you move house and your catchment area changes, you don’t have to move your child to a different school.
However, if you want to request a transfer you should first talk to your headteacher and then complete the transfer request online form, via the Government website.
If you have any questions about admissions or transfers, please do contact the School Secretary by email: admin@stmartin.sch.je or 01534 851812.
